The Artful Life

What is an artist?

An artist is a person who approaches life with an inner knowing of the joyous creative potential that exists within every moment and every task. It is the ability to see that the lives we have built around us can be our canvas, and that we have the magic within us to change it’s form before our very eyes. An artist is someone who knows that something beautiful can be created where it did not exist before, and that this process is constant.

An artist is the person who takes an old worn out tee shirt and turns it into a pillow for her brother so that he can still have this treasured thing in his life in another form, an artist can turn a brown bag of raw ingredients into a beautiful meal where moments before it was random items that were not in themselves appetizing.

An artist is a person who takes a cake mix and transforms it into 12 cupcakes that are a celebration of love with color and candy, or someone who makes a quilt from scraps of fabric that would have otherwise become rags. An artist is someone who has created a beautiful family where before they were just one, an artist is a child who can turn a rainy afternoon into something to remember forever with nothing but a cardboard box, some old bed sheets, and their own creative spirit to guide them. It is my belief that we are all artists called to create our lives. To fill them with color and sparkle and ultimately into masterpieces. To use the hard knocks and major blows of being human to sculpt a beautiful life for us and in turn and by example, for those around us. My mission, is to show as many people as I can that they truly are artists, that they are active participants in the art of creation every moment of their lives. That there is no difference between creating a beautiful painting and creating a fabulous party. Both hold the same inner rewards, both require skill and creativity, both manifest something positive that did not exist before.

Living an artful life has nothing to do with paint or clay, practice or theory. It is embracing the opportunity for creation in each moment, and the extraordinary joy inherent in that ability. Go create this glorious day in full living color!! …to be continued…2015-11-21 Nov 23 032
